Shooting Sports
2020 NRA Grant
The National Rifle Association Foundation gave our Council a 2020 grant for equipment in support of the our Shooting Sports Program. The grant awarded archery, rifle, and shotgun equipment as well as ammunition, clay targets, and hearing protection. The NRA Foundation has supported the Council for a number of years, significantly improving the shooting sports programs and equipment and contributing to new program areas like Cowboy Action Shooting, Advanced Rifle, and Pistol Safety and Marksmanship.
This year’s grant included Genesis mini-bows, which are ideal for our youngest archers. Along with the bows, we received
targets and a substantial supply of arrows. Our shotgun program received equipment upgrades. A new BSA program approved for our Council is Cowboy Action Shooting event. Scouts participating in this activity shoot a shotgun, lever action rifle, and a “old west” style revolver. This is the only event in which Scouts are allowed to shoot a lever action rifle. In support of this program, the NRA Foundation awarded us equipment that will significantly enhance our program. We also received a significant amount of.22LR ammunition, which is particularly important is an era of ammunition shortages.
The NRA Foundation has generously supplied the vast majority of our upgraded and new shooting sports equipment. This has allowed the Shooting Sports Committee to develop a comprehensive year-round shooting sports program.
