The adventure begins where the mainland ends.

Looking for something beyond the traditional summer camp experience? Knox Island Odyssey sends older Scouts off the mainland and into a multi-day high-adventure experience across the islands of Robert E. Knox Scout Reservation.

On Monday, participants will load their gear, launch their canoes and kayaks, and make their way to Survivor Island, which will serve as their base camp throughout the expedition. From there, scouts will receive a series of clues leading them to destinations, challenges, and quests scattered throughout the Knox islands. Only by successfully completing each challenge will they discover where the adventure takes them next.

Participants should be prepared to paddle, navigate, problem-solve, work as a team, test their outdoor skills, take on an archery challenge, and face a few surprises along the way. Each evening, the expedition returns to Survivor Island to make camp and prepare for the next day's adventure.

The Odyssey runs Monday morning through Wednesday afternoon, when participants will temporarily return to main camp in time for the Bob White Bash. The expedition resumes Thursday morning for one final overnight adventure before returning to main camp Friday afternoon for the closing festivities.

Because much of this program takes place away from main camp, participants should expect a more rugged and independent camping experience than the traditional merit badge program.

Participation Requirements:

  1. • Must be 14 years of age or older
  2. • Must have completed the Swimming Merit Badge
  3. • Must have completed either the Kayaking or Canoeing Merit Badge
  4. • Must have completed the First Aid Merit Badge
  5. • Must have completed the Archery Merit Badge
  6. • Must be prepared for extended paddling, primitive camping, and physically demanding outdoor activities

Scouts who successfully complete the entire expedition will earn an exclusive Knox Island Odyssey commemorative patch—and, perhaps more importantly, the right to say they conquered the islands.

The route is unknown. The challenges are waiting. Pack your gear and prepare to leave the mainland behind.
