Knox Scout Reservation Legacy

Be a part of the Knox Reservation Legacy

For over 100 years, the Georgia-Carolina Council has made a positive impact in the lives of young people in the CSRA. The Georgia-Carolina Council serves 16 counties in Georgia and South Carolina including Lincoln County, McDuffie County, Wilkes County, Warren County, and Richmond County.

The Knox Scout Reservation is the heart of Scouting adventure in our council and was purchased by the Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s after Fred Prater of Lincolnton and Robert E. Knox of Thomson traveled to Washington, D.C., and lobbied the federal government to release the land to the Boy Scouts.

For many years, the reservation was used as a wilderness camping area. Then, in 2002, a ground-breaking ceremony launched the first phase of a massive development project to turn the area into an outdoor paradise for Scouts and the general public.

Each year, along with numerous Scout activities, Knox Reservation hosts an annual Summer Camp program that leverages 7 miles of the beautiful Lake Thurmond shoreline.  The Reservation, attracts Scouts from all over the country and is a hidden gem within the Georgia region.

The Georgia-Carolina Council has launched a Legacy Brick campaign to support ongoing project improvements.  Our first Legacy project that we are very proud of is the ground breaking of the renovation of the Sewell Center, named in memory of our beloved Scout Ranger the late Gregg Sewell.

As each project develops, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the Knox legacy ensuring Scouting continues to thrive in our region.  Some of our upcoming building projects include:  A Health Lodge, an Administration Office, new housing for Administration on site, and a new Trading Post. Our continued efforts will guide us to our pinnacle project, a new Dining Facility.

Make your mark on Robert E. Knox Scout Reservation and the future of Scouting by having your name, your family name, business or organization inscribed on bricks placed around those facilities as they progress.

Now is your chance to Leave your Legacy by purchasing a commemorative brick to forever pave the path to Scouting. Choose your brick size, enter your text, choose your clip art, and become part of the Robert E. Knox Scout Reservation.

Our first Legacy Brick project will be in support of the renovation of the Sewell Center. Mr. Greg Sewell was the beloved Camp Ranger for Knox Scout Reservation in Lincoln County for 15 years. Prior to this, he ran his own business. Greg was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Greg was a lifelong scouter in the Georgia Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered in the Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA and Venturing programs. He was a Vigil Honor member in the Bob White Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Greg was a recipient of other Scouting awards over the years, including the Silver Beaver award and the District Award of Merit. He was an outstanding leader and mentor for generations of youth and adults for the Boy Scouts of America in the Southeast. Greg was always cheerfully ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He embodied the values taught by the Boy Scouts of America, "Duty to God, Country and Others."

Greg believed that the most worthwhile thing to do is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.
