Arrow of Light to Scouting Transition

Building a Bridge to the Next Adventure

The transition from Cub Scouting to Scouts BSA is one of the most exciting and meaningful moments in a young person’s Scouting journey. The Arrow of Light (AOL) is not only the highest achievement in Cub Scouting—it is a symbol of readiness for the next challenge. This moment marks a shift toward independence, leadership, and adventure, and it deserves to be celebrated and supported with care.

Our goal is to ensure that every Arrow of Light Scout has the opportunity to join a Scout's BSA troop and continue their journey in Scouting. When families are engaged and informed, these Scouts' likelihood of staying active increases significantly. This transition also plays a critical role in strengthening our troops by bringing in enthusiastic, experienced youth and supportive parents who are already invested in Scouting.

Supporting the transition means more than simply handing off a Scout from one program to another. It means celebrating the significance of the achievement, helping parents understand the changes and opportunities ahead, and making the move into a troop exciting and welcoming. The experience should feel like a natural next step in the adventure—not a confusing leap.

The Arrow of Light transition is essential because these Scouts are the most familiar with the Scouting experience. They already understand the program's values, structure, and community. They’re motivated, prepared, and ready for more, making them the easiest and most natural candidates to continue their journey in Scouts BSA.
