Arrow of Light to Scouting Transition
Goal
- Provide all AOL Scouts the opportunity to join a troop & experience Scouts BSA
- Increase likelihood AOL Scouts continue in Scouting
- Keep troops strong
How to help the transition
- Recognize AOL Scouts graduate from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA
- Help parents understand the transition
- Make transition fun
Why is AOL to Scouts BSA important?
- They are the easiest Scouts to recruit because the youth and parents are already familiar with and invested in Scouting
Timeline
September/October
- Troop - Identify AOL Scouts who can enter a Scout unit in the next calendar year
- Pack - Identify a troop or troops that can support the AOL to Scouting transition
- Pack/Troop - Adopt a den chief for all AOL dens if the den does not already have a den chief
October/November
- Visit packs to introduce Cub Scouts to Scouting and build excitement with Bears, Webelos, and AOL dens.
January/February
- Troop – Host AOL Scouts & their parents at a troop meeting – Consider “What to expect” training for parents after opening.
- Pack & Troop – Pick date & location for bridging ceremony
February/March
- Pack & Troop – Hold bridging ceremony
- Troop – Get new Scouts to the next troop meeting – Keep meeting fun
March/April
- Troop – Get new Scouts to an overnight event
- Troop – Recruit new parents as leaders
