Council Philmont Contingent on the way to New Mexico!
16 youth and 8 adult leaders left at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8.
Our 2009 Council Philmont Contingent met at Grace United Methodist Church and departed to catch a flight in Atlanta headed for Denver, Colorado. From there, they were headed to Colorado Springs on chartered bus to spend the night at the Air Force Academy. Tuesday, the group was headed to Pike's Peak, the Garden of the Gods, Caplun Volcano and into Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. After spending Wednesday in Base Camp at Philmont, the contingent will split into 2 12-person Crews and depart Thursday morning, June 11, for a 10-Day backpacking trek. They will hike back into Base Camp on Sunday, June 21, for rest and relaxation before heading back to Augusta on Monday, June 22. Look for a follow-up article on their trip upon the contingents return! |
